The history of a revolutionary discovery

Milestones

1975

A group of friends met as usual in the sauna of the Esso Motor Hotel on the outskirts of Malmö. They were the same people as usual and about 11 o’clock in the evening one of them, the motel’s kitchen manager, left the group. In the end one of the others, who happened to be an inventor, became curious and asked why the kitchen manager always disappeared for a while during the evening. The answer was that he had to take care of the last of the potwashing that had been lying in soak for a couple of hours. He then said, “Anybody who invents a machine that can really get the potwashing clean, will become a rich man.” This immediately started the inventor thinking and an idea began to form.

1977

The first patent application was made. The following year the first prototype was ready for a field test. It was a large, ungainly and expensive machine and only a few were sold. But the customers who were blessed with testing this machine were so incredibly pleased that they knew they were on the right track. If only the same technology could be sold at a price that would be attractive to the market. Product development carried on but eventually the company split into two separate companies, Viptop AB and Balldish AB.

1987

Gunnar Sandberg acquired Balldish AB and brought it into the GS Development group. The company’s name was changed to GRANULDISK AB. At the same time the first cassette-based system was produced – an improvement that has been one of reasons for GRANULDISK’s success. After more than ten years’ stiff competition, GRANULDISK acquired Viptop AB in 1998 and the granule potwashing expertise was once again brought together under one roof. Slowly but surely the granule technique is proving its superiority. Today there are more than 9000 satisfied customers around the world. A group that is growing daily thanks to our own subsidiaries in France, Italy, Germany and the UK as well as dedicated partners in other markets.
